New England based “Autolatry” released their first full length in December of 2010 titled “The Hill”. This 4 track EP proves they’ve been busy pushing their limits in intricacy and composition creating a most satisfying mix of black metal while stepping out of the boundaries most remain confined in. However, despite the BM sound, these guys have no allegiance to the dark lord. In fact, they adorn their colossal arrangements with stories of natural creation and the beauty of American nature. Take “Of the Land” as a precursor of a much larger masterpiece brewing deep in woods.

Sort of like the “Where the Wild Things Are” for fans of grim stoner-like monsters, Norse myth and spillage of Christian blood (not gory at all… but implied). André Øvredal, writer/director did a very good job at creating a story that hypes childhood fantasies while honoring the lore of Norway. We follow a group of students documenting the actions of a troll hunter named Hans and discover how the existence of the beasts are being covered up to protect the people. Not too intricate too follow, fun as hell to watch.
